Ioannis Nakas
Ioannis Nakas was born in Ioannina, Greece, where he also got his BA in History and Archaeology. He continued his studies with an MA in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton, UK and a PhD in Classics from the University of Birmingham, UK, in which he specialized in Hellenistic and Roman harbours of the Aegean (The Hellenistic and Roman Harbours of Delos and Kenchreai, BAR International Series). For many years he has worked as a contracted archaeologist, surveyor, and diver in various land and underwater excavations and projects in Greece, as well as an illustrator and surveyor, specializing in the documentation of ancient finds and architectural remains, as well as in artistic reconstructions of archaeological sites. His research interests include ancient and medieval shipbuilding and ship iconography, ancient harbours, fortifications, and transport amphorae, and he has published a series of articles and chapters in books on these subjects.
